Rail Disruption on Koh Lanta's Doorstep: Eastern Line Trains Cancelled Due to Flooding
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) cancelled 10 additional eastern-line trains on September 27, 2026, as heavy rainfall and flooding pushed water above rail level in several spots. This follows a separate round of cancellations the day before, on September 26. Six rail sections are currently closed for safety, affecting both regular and tourist trains, and there's no fixed date yet for when normal service will resume. If you're planning eastern-line travel to or from Bangkok, here's what you need to know.
Why Trains Are Cancelled
Ongoing heavy rain has caused flooding along parts of the eastern rail line, with floodwater reported above rail level in multiple locations. For safety, SRT has closed six sections of track:

What This Means for Tourists
If you were booked on tourist train No. 997 (Hua Lamphong to Chuk Samet) or its return service No. 998, you can get a full refund at any railway station ticket counter.
More broadly, if you're travelling on the eastern line, expect delays and cancellations across the six closed sections. It's worth checking SRT's train tracking website before you set off. Where trains aren't running, the Airport Rail Link or public buses are suggested as alternatives.
There's no fixed resumption date yet. SRT is inspecting the tracks and reassessing service as flood levels change, so schedules remain unpredictable for now. For the latest status, you can call the SRT hotline on 1690, which operates 24 hours a day.
